Special Projects Grant Application

We understand that you are busy.  This application is meant to be quick and easy.  As a general rule, we don't anticipate that this application should require more than 20 minutes to complete.

CalPoets will offer Special Projects grants on as as-needed basis, up to $300/Poet-Teacher (or project) per year.  Applications will be reviewed monthly.  These grants are meant to be “working grants” with clear goals and outcomes.  Matching funds are desired, but not required.  Active Poet-Teachers, or Poet-Teachers in training, are invited to apply for a project.  Special Projects grant recipients will be asked to submit a quick and simple final report after 12 months of receiving the funds.  Applicants can expect a decision within 60 days of submitting a Special Projects grant application.  We can speed up decisions if required.

Parameters for “Special Projects” may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Area Coordinator mentoring (training) of prospective Poet-Teachers
  2. Poet-Teacher in training
  3. New Poet-Teacher (First year) teaching a new residency at a school
  4. Engaging a brand new school or a school that has lapsed for 3+ years
  5. Launching, or continuing a Youth Poet Laureate program
  6. Collaborations, new programs and more

A board committee will assist Meg with application review 1x/month. The following will be considered prior to offering a Special Projects grant:

  1. Quality of the proposal
  2. Order of application (first-come, first-served)
  3. Potential impact of the grant
  4. Priority offered to new Poet-Teachers
  5. Priority offered to first-time applicants to the Special Projects grant program
  6. Priority offered to Poet-Teachers who have not received a Special Projects grant in 24+ months
  7. Matching funds available
